Visual Methods 

The images presented under (visual) narratives accompany my dissertation Process and Emergence: A topographic ethnography of the embodiment of place and adventure tourism in Khumbu, Nepal. Key methods were used to document my field research experience and to illuminate my research questions. Visual ethnography, walking ethnography, and video/audio recordings developed this narrative. This website is intended to present the visual aspects of this research (and other similar research) and introduce the concepts of new materialism and mountain research. 

Each roman numeral corresponds to field day and movement through land. My route followed the popular Everest Base Camp trek itinerary. 

Visual Ethnography

Photography and video was used to document human infrastructure of Khumbu but also the more-than-human and the natureculture contact zones.

Walking Ethnography

Moving through land allowed for an intimate embodiment of place and knowledge to develop.

Multimedia

Spontaneous moving image captures and audio recordings were made through the field research.
